On a night of American comebacks at the Milan Cortina Games, Alysa Liu delivered the U.S. its first women’s figure skating Olympic gold medal in 24 years. The 20-year-old Liu performed a near-flawless free skate Thursday to upstage Japanese rivals Kaori Sakamoto and Ami Nakai.

At the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, the Russian Olympic Committee team was stripped of their gold medals after 15-year-old Kamila Valieva failed a drug test and was handed a four-year ban. Her coach, Eteri Tutberidze, has long served in the same role for Petrosian, who also shares the same choreographer and training site in Moscow as Valieva.

Few sports, if any, draw more eyeballs than figure skating at the Winter Olympics. Former U.S. figure skating greats Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski have been on the broadcast for NBC. It's been an eventful showing so far.
